Sussex wedding venues

I have been capturing wedding stories for the last 15 years and have become well accustomed to some of the most beautiful venues Sussex has to offer. With the South downs national park being only a short drive from where I live I am luck enough to regularly frequent some of the most beautiful scenic, rustic barn venues that Sussex has to offer. Having regularly captured weddings at these venues I have a great deal of experience in the best areas for both group formal shots and those important couple portraits. Here are some of my most frequented and adored venues, including,

Upwaltham Barns, Yoghurt Rooms, Hendall Manor Barns, Hawthbush Farm, Fitzleroi barn.

Upwaltham Barns.

Upwaltham barns is a fantastic wedding venue situated between Petworth and Chichester and within the South Downs national park.

Group shot locations at Upwaltham barn are fabulous with something for all group sizes and climates! You can choose from the courtyard, the pretty cottage garden with abundant floral displays or you can take your guests to the front of the venue where you either have the backdrop of the venue itself of if you’re looking for a more alternative backdrop there is a fantastic green metal barn which works amazingly. For the bride and groom photos, you again have all the options details above along with the moroccan snug and of course the hilltop behind the venue. A great view and location for that special golden hour and sunset overlooking the venue.

Yoghurt Rooms

If you’re looking for a venue that you can hire for a full weekend of wedding shenanigans then look no further. The Yoghurt rooms is the perfect eco friendly DIY wedding venue. I have captured a few weddings here and have more in the waiting. There are so many awesome areas to explore around this venue so be sure to make the most of them when capturing yourselves and friends and family. The outside of the barn always makes a great plain shaded backdrop to group shots as well the lake area at the front of the barn. For the more adventurous you can head over to the yurt and camping area within the woodland and for those that like a scenic backdrop then that box can be ticked too. With lots of accommodation on site you can have all your guests camp and stay overnight the night prior and the night of the wedding creating an awesome “wedding morning” feel.

Hendall Manor Barns

Hendall Manor Barns, one of my most frequented and adored venues. Everything about this venue oozes perfection, from the location to the layout to the team behind the scenes. With a fantastic 100ft stone barn and gorgeous South facing outside terrace and lawn area you will be spoilt for choice on areas for photographs of your big day. For group shots you can choose between the front of the barn, the upper and lower terrace area or for the smaller more intimate groups you can go through to the private garden where you will again be utterly spoilt for choice. The pond at Hendall also makes a great location for photographs of both the couple alone and also for some more creative bridal party shots. When it comes to the portrait shots of the newly weds you could be gone for hours (I would of course not take you away for that long, but!) With the private gardens, pond, orchard, tree swing and my favourite yellow door! You will end up with a combination of both beautiful portraits and scenery in the background to look back on over the years. If the weathers bad (or not) some great alternative photos can be captured in the car barn!

Hawthbush farm

Hawthbush farm is a pretty incredible place to get married and if I was to do the, “i do’s” all over again then this place would be my dream! This venue only holds a limited number of weddings per year but they do only ever host one per weekend, so you can hire the whole place for the whole weekend and have everyone camp and glamp with a lucky few able to spend the night in more luxury accommodation. Everything is pretty spread out, but also in my experience the day is pretty chilled out with guests ambling around between the accommodation, woodland ceremony location and across the field back to the main barn and hang out area. Photography locations are far and wide, rustic barns, scenic views, darker woodlands and the most amazing shepherd huts. If you’re looking for a chilled out wedding with a chilled out venue and a chilled out photographer (aka, me!) then this could be a great combo!

Fitzleroi Barn

Situated in the heart of the Sussex countryside I absolutely adore weddings at Fitzleroi Barn. The gorgeous 400 year old barn is stunning and creates the perfect space for both the ceremony, wedding breakfast and evening celebrations.

The courtyard, the central point to weddings at Fitzleroi is the perfect space for guests to mingle, as well as the perfect space for the formal wedding group photos. Always handy, where possible to capture the group shots as near to where the guests are going to hang, saves a lot of time rounding people up for each shot. For the Bride and groom and newly wed portraits you can take a short walk around the back of the barn to views of open farmland, arable fields, which have pathways where you can really get in amongst it all, without having to damage crops, or shoes and dresses for the matter! On the walk down towards the fields there is a gorgeous wall with stunning climbing roses, it makes the most fantastic backdrop and I can't seem to go here without capturing at least one portrait by it! Maybe it's because i’m a Rose! Haha!
